Flood Recovering Damaged Items

Grimwade Conservation are offering free online workshops to assist individuals in salvaging items damaged by floods during the critical immediate post-event period. In addition to the workshops, there are also video and online resources available.

Conservator Ms. Melzer specializes in the conservation of paper, books, and photographs, which often hold significant personal value and cannot be replaced. She emphasizes the importance of acting quickly for successful recovery and restoration.

During and immediately after a disaster, many items can be restored, even if they initially appear beyond repair. Ms. Melzer explains that people often discard items after a flood, but conservators have the knowledge and experience to save them through a few simple steps.

The program provides an opportunity for individuals to learn how to save their precious belongings, such as books, family albums, paintings, framed photographs, and even clothing. Expert conservators will be available to offer personalized practical advice specific to each person’s items.

Ms. Melzer and her team are eager to contribute to post-flood recovery and share their expertise in salvaging items that may initially seem too damaged or dirty to save. While some objects can be cleaned and dried with professional guidance, others may require restoration by a professional conservator.
